Position: Instrumentation Helper -Various Locations

Instrumentation Helper - Various Locations

An Instrumentation Helper assists a Journeyman to layout, fabricate, assemble, repair and installs instruments, both electronic and pneumatic, including primary piping, tubing, and other instrument needs.

  • Level IV:
    Competent to complete Journeyman level Instrument tasks with minimal supervision.
Overview of Primary Duties
  • Assist in layout and installation in accordance with instructions or work requirements using drawings, blueprints, sketches, and manual.
  • Measure thread, cut and assemble cable tray and cable tray support systems under the direct supervision of a Journeyman.
  • Assist in installing tubing and clamps into cable tray systems.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install tubing and piping.
  • Perform other work‑related tasks as assigned.
  • Utilize hand, hydraulic, and power tools.
  • Drill and tap holes in structures and attach brackets, guards, etc., in accordance with the guidance of a journeyman.
  • As determined by the site a helper may operate man lifts, scissor lifts, overhead cranes, band saws, hose cutting/crimping devices, pressure pumps, and hydraulic pumping units.
  • Inspect and maintain tools.
  • Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles.
  • Follow Yates Code of Conduct.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Safety Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
  • Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
  • Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
  • Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
  • Participate in workplace inspections.
  • Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
  • Participate in required and assigned training.
  • Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
  • Present a mature approach to working safely.
  • Attend pre‑start and Safety meetings and contribute.
Qualifications
  • Level IV:
    Thirty‑six (36) + months of heavy industrial‑related instrument experience.
  • Level III:
    Twenty‑four (24) to thirty‑five (35) months of heavy industrial‑related instrument experience.
  • Level II:
    Twelve (12) to twenty‑three (23) months of heavy industrial‑related instrument experience.
  • Level I:
    Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial‑related instrument experience.
  • One (1) year of industrial experience.
Requirements
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.

  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
  • Required to wear safety‑approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above.
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
