Job Summary
A Carpenter Helper assists carpenters to complete journeyman tasks, including layout, assembly, and complex operations. The helper learns mathematical functions and their applications for the designated craft and is trained in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and procedures.
Responsibilities- Construct, fabricate, install, and dismantle form work from fixtures of metal, wood, and other accessories.
- May build or reinforce forms or bracing prior to pours.
- Work on expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straight edges.
- Verify accuracy of structures with transits, plumb bobs, squares, and levels.
- Use carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screwdrivers, wrenches, hand and power saws, drills, and pry bars.
- Level, smooth, and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete using straight edges, floats, or power screeds.
- Nail cleats (braces) across boards to construct concrete‑supporting forms.
- Assist with preparing layout of forms or fixtures to be fabricated, using lines or grades.
- Assist with erecting handrails, walkways, and gangways in conjunction with formwork.
- May mix cement or epoxy grouts using concrete mixing machines or hoes.
- May signal the concrete deliverer to position the truck for pouring.
- Load, transport, and unload tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Observe flat drawings or diagrams and understand how they translate into solid objects.
- Work within precise standards of accuracy.
- Operate electric and pneumatic tools.
- Perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities with tools and equipment.
- Assist with tie rebar.

- Responsible for refusing unsafe work and performing all work according to Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
- Report all incidents, near misses, and hazards to management.
- Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
- Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
- Participate in workplace inspections.
- Comply with statutory requirements, including the duty of care.
- Participate in required and assigned training.
- Provide suggestions to improve safety.
- Present a mature approach to working safely.
- Attend pre‑start and safety meetings and contribute.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Level IV: 36+ months heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience or other verified experiences or certifications with carpenter experience.
Level III: 24 to 35 months heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience.
Level II: 12 to 23 months heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience.
Level I: 0 to 11 months heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience or one year of industrial experience.
Requirements- Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
- Have personal hand tools required for the craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
- Successfully complete required safety training, including but not limited to Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.

- All weather conditions at varying temperatures.
- Work at varying elevations; work in windy and dusty environments.
- Moderate to high noise levels.
- Project site contains light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.
- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
- Required to wear safety‑approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above.
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
