Job SummaryThe University of South Alabama's Central Utilities department is seeking to hire an HVAC Mechanic II. The role maintains and operates HVAC systems, troubleshoots electronic and pneumatic control systems, repairs hot water, chill water, and steam systems, performs preventive maintenance, and uses test equipment and hand/power tools. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification (Level I and II), a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least four years of HVAC experience (or two years of an approved HVAC training program).
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Four years of experience operating and maintaining HVAC systems
- Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification (Level I and II)
- Valid driver’s license with an insurance‑suitable driving record
- Completion of an HVAC training program may satisfy two years of required experience
Preferred Qualifications:
None specified.
- Maintain and operate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigerant systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic and pneumatic control systems.
- Repair hot water, chill water, and steam systems, including boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, valves, and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
- Use test equipment such as volt/amp/ohms meters and temperature‑pressure gauges.
- Use hand and power tools for repair and installation of equipment.
- Travel between work sites in a university vehicle.
- Move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Climb ladders to access work areas.
- Work in closed areas of extreme heat or cold temperatures.
- Distinguish color‑coded wiring and read blueprints and schematics to determine component requirements.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance.
- Work the defined schedule and overtime as required.
- Complete related duties as required.
Main Campus;
Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; full‑time position.
