REPORTS TO:

Crane and Rigging Manager

• Be technically proficient in tasks, work processes, and safe use of rigging equipment.
• Be accountable for completion of daily work assignments, including signatures for work completion and quality.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization on assigned job sites.
• Be responsible for selection and utilization of proper lifting gear.
• Set up crane hoisting equipment.
• Work any assigned shift and may be assigned tasks outside normal craft assignments.
• Monitor the job site for compliance with quality, safety, and environmental health regulations.
• Apply industry‑wide guidelines to carry out instructions or directions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Identify and resolve small problems that arise while carrying out day‑to‑day tasks.

• High School Diploma/GED or 5 years of maritime experience.
• One year minimum work experience as a rigger in a shipyard environment or similar industry.
• Willingness to provide on‑the‑job training for less experienced co‑workers.
• Thorough knowledge of equipment used in rigging operations, including lifting and moving equipment.
• Knowledge of shipyard terminology such as general ship structure and vessel layout.
• Knowledge of USA Standard hand signals.
• Basic math skills and ability to measure using the metric system.
• Proficiency by completing the Austal USA Overhead Crane/Rigging training course with written and functional examinations.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and present information in one‑on‑one or small group situations.

• Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.
• Regular exposure to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.
• Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold.
• Noise level usually louder than 90 dB.
• Must bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel; perform prolonged standing.
• Ability to turn head and body laterally and about the vertical axis.
• Lift/push/pull 50‑75 lbs occasionally; 20 lbs frequently.
• Climb safely using stairs, scaffolding, ladders, ramps; work at heights above 12ft.
• Work at various levels (waist, eye, overhead); use tools and equipment safely.
• Maintain balance on uneven surfaces; use handgrip and coordination.
• Use personal protective equipment per OSHA standards.
• Withstand cold and hot temperatures; enter confined spaces up to 18″ × 36″ for prolonged periods.
• Respond to verbal and audible commands; use adequate visual skills.
• Fully extend arm to reach overhead, to the side, and downward.

Must comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations while performing daily job tasks.
