Mechanical Superintendent

A growing commercial construction and operational technology company is hiring a hands-on Mechanical Superintendent to lead mechanical field work on commercial building projects within 30 miles of Mobile, AL. This role is ideal for a field leader who can own daily mechanical execution, coordinate crews and subcontractors, solve problems in the field, and help build the mechanical side of a fast-growing company.

The best-fit candidate has strong commercial mechanical experience, jobsite leadership ability, and the confidence to work across mechanical rooms, HVAC systems, piping, ductwork, pumps, fans, motors, valves, controls-adjacent systems, startup support, and commercial building infrastructure.

Location:

Within 30 miles of Mobile, AL

Schedule:

Field construction schedule; overtime may be available based on project needs

Work Setting:
Primarily onsite at commercial construction jobsites, with some service opportunities

Role Type:
Direct Hire or Contract to Hire- based on candidate's needs

Pay Rate: $30-$40/hr based on mechanical leadership experience, technical skill set, and field capability

Travel:
Occasional local/regional travel, including possible overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily mechanical field execution on commercial construction and service projects.
  • Coordinate mechanical crews, apprentices, journeymen, subcontractors, and trade partners.
  • Oversee commercial mechanical installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, startup support, and punch list completion.
  • Work across mechanical rooms, rooftop equipment, pumps, motors, fans, belts, bearings, valves, piping, ductwork, supports, hangers, equipment pads, and related building infrastructure.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation.
  • Plan manpower, materials, tools, and daily field priorities.
  • Identify field conflicts and coordinate practical solutions with Project Managers, customers, and other trades.
  • Support equipment startup, testing, balancing, commissioning, and closeout activity.
  • Maintain awareness of material needs, shortages, delays, and field conditions.
  • Enforce OSHA, company, customer, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Mentor foremen, journeymen, apprentices, and less-experienced field employees.
  • Model strong craftsmanship, reliability, communication, professionalism, and jobsite conduct.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial or industrial mechanical experience preferred.
  • Prior mechanical superintendent, foreman, lead mechanic, or field-lead experience.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability across commercial building systems.
  • Experience leading mechanical installation, piping, ductwork, supports, equipment setting, rigging support, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Strong field problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, including possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work outdoors, climb ladders/scaffolding/rooftops/aerial lifts, lift up to 75 lbs, and work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, attics, crawlspaces, and active jobsites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA 608 certification.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience leading apprentices, journeymen, subcontractors, or mixed trade crews.
  • Experience with commercial facilities, healthcare, education, municipal, aviation, or industrial building environments.
  • Experience in a smaller or growing company where leaders wear multiple hats and help build process.
