Overview
The Richardson School is seeking a Therapeutic Counselor to provide a comprehensive, school-based counseling program that is preventative in design, developmental in implementation, and aligned with the school’s Equitable Multi-Level System of Supports (EMLSS). This role supports students in academic achievement, transition planning, and personal and social development while promoting trauma-responsive practices and proactive behavior prevention.
This position functions as a core member of an interdisciplinary therapeutic team and serves as a subject matter expert to educators, families, and community partners.
Position RequirementThis role supports two school locations (Madison and Beloit). Candidates must be able to travel between sites and be physically present at each location as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities Program Development and Management- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive counseling program across all EMLSS tiers
- Use data to inform programming and evaluate impact on academic and therapeutic outcomes
- Collect and analyze counseling and social-emotional learning (SEL) data to support progress monitoring and tiered decision‑making
- Collaborate with leadership and BCBAs to align counseling interventions with behavior support plans and prevention strategies
- Support student transitions, including return to district, vocational planning, and graduation
- Coordinate programs such as career fairs
- Assist students with academic, workplace, and community experiences
- Support implementation of PBIS and EMLSS initiatives
- Collaborate with educators, students, families, and community partners
- Serve as liaison between social service agencies and school staff
- Provide consultation to staff regarding student behavior and data
- Deliver training on therapeutic approaches and counseling-related topics
- Master’s Degree in school counseling, school psychology, school social work, mental health counseling, clinical psychology, or related field
- Meets DPI certification requirements and maintains valid professional certification
- Experience working with students with disabilities, including IEPs
- Experience with EMLSS, PBIS, or multi-tiered systems of support
- Valid driver’s license
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel between locations as required for job duties
