COMPUTATIONAL SCIENTIST ASSISTANT (2) at University of Alabama at Birmingham
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a COMPUTATIONAL SCIENTIST ASSISTANT, an entry‑level Embedded Software Developer position for UAB's Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group. The role involves the development, testing, continuous improvement and deployment of desktop, web‑based, and embedded software/firmware applications to support payload systems for space applications. Responsibilities include assisting in system‑level documents, testing, debugging, and preliminary code development for complex engineering hardware and devices.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists in design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
- Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $70,425 - $114,440)
QUALIFICATIONSEssential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (work experience may NOT substitute for education).
- Ability to use various engineering and documentation/analysis software (MS Word, Excel).
- Ability to accumulate and analyze data; strong critical‑thinking and interpretive skills to analyze situations, define problems, and develop solutions.
- Knowledge of software development processes and usage of IDEs for development and testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Embedded Firmware Development experience using advanced microcontrollers and IDEs (e.g., MPLAB, IAR, Keil).
- Collaborative Software/Firmware Development experience in small teams.
- Software/Firmware Development experience for aerospace applications.
- Experience with Test‑Driven Development (TDD) methodology.
- Experience developing software with programming languages C, C++, C#, Python, and/or Rust.
- Experience using Visual Studio and/or VS Code.
- Experience developing/deploying RTOS frameworks.
