About the Role

The Mail Room Staff / Courier is responsible for managing the daily mail and package operations for the Mobile County Public School System. This includes the timely and accurate pickup, sorting, processing, and delivery of all incoming and outgoing mail, interoffice mail, and packages. This role involves operating company vehicles to service all school system locations and using specialized mailroom equipment for processing and tracking.

Responsibilities
  • Mail & Package Distribution:
  • Receive, sort, and distribute all incoming mail and packages at the central mail facility.
  • Pick up mail from all designated locations and transport it to the central mail facility for processing.
  • Operate a Xerox-provided vehicle to complete daily delivery routes.
  • Service 3 external routes (South, North, Central) totaling up to 110 stops daily.
  • Service 1 internal route for the Central Office campus, totaling 3 stops with up to 60 locations, twice daily.
  • Deliver paper requests to off-site Central Office locations, limited to two cases per delivery.
  • Package Tracking:
  • Use the Pac Trac package tracking system with hand-held scanners for all inbound private carrier items.
  • Obtain a signature for all packages that have a tracking label.
  • Assist in maintaining the Pac Trac database.
  • Mail Processing & Finishing:
  • Operate a Pitney Bowes D1950 folder inserter to finish materials for mailing.
  • Handle mail projects, which includes receiving and collating multi-page documents.
  • Compliance and Performance:
  • Adhere to all Xerox uniform dress code and safety policies.
  • Meet performance standards for delivery timeliness (95% on-time) and delivery accuracy (95% accuracy).
  • Comply with all federal and state laws regarding student information protection (FERPA).
  • Successfully pass all required criminal background checks prior to starting.
  • Required Equipment Operation:
  • Xerox-provided delivery vans (5 vehicles in fleet).
  • Pitney Bowes Connect + 3000 postage meter.
  • Pac Trac hand-held scanners.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
  • (Inferred) Must possess a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles.
  • (Inferred) Ability to lift and transport mail bags and packages (e.g., "2 cases" of paper).
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure 95% delivery accuracy.
  • Reliable and punctual, with an emphasis on meeting timeliness standards.
  • Ability to adhere to a specific dress code and all safety policies.
  • Experience with mailroom equipment and package tracking systems is preferred.
