Job SummaryThe Medical Waste Route Driver is responsible for servicing assigned accounts with mandatory compliance. The driver must transport waste, deliver supplies, and maintain vehicle safety and equipment, utilizing company telematics and ELD/GPS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage assigned routes, ensuring safe, timely pickup and accurate service.
- Pick up and transport waste according to federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Plan daily schedule using manifest, route sheets, VCR and other paperwork provided by the Transportation Manager/Supervisor or Dispatcher.
- Follow routing software schedule and prepare/load trucks for the day with required supplies.
- Unload trucks at WMHS and customer sites and secure waste properly.
- Verify customers have packaged and prepared waste per regulations before transport.
- Provide high‑level customer service, communicating issues to Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution.
- Secure waste, supplies, and material‑handling equipment prior to operating vehicle on public highway.
- Complete route paperwork legibly, accurately, and submit to Supervisor or Dispatcher; complete DOT Driver Log if applicable.
- Notify Supervisor or Dispatcher of any route changes or customer issues, and report problems or incidents before the close of business.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip maintenance on assigned truck; report any maintenance problems.
- Use ELD (Geotab) to log hours in accordance with DOT guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 0–1 year experience, preferably driving box trucks and route management.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- Medical card obtained by a certified medical examiner (all CMV drivers).
- May be required for mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements.
- Preferred:
High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
Key physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, and hearing. The job is performed in both indoor garage/shop or gas plant conditions and outdoors with inclement weather, heat, and humidity. This role is designated safety‑sensitive and requires strict compliance with safety rules and protocols.
