Position: Transportation Vehicle Operator (Non-Emergent)

Position Summary:

The Transportation Vehicle Operator is a crucial part of our team, providing safe, compassionate, and timely non-emergent transportation services. This role is responsible for the transport of patients to and from medical appointments, rehabilitation facilities, and other scheduled destinations using specialized vehicles like wheelchair vans. The operator's primary focus is ensuring the safety, comfort, and dignity of every passenger while adhering to all company policies and transportation regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Patient Transportation and Care:
    • Transports patients with mobility challenges, ensuring their safe and secure transfer to and from the vehicle using proper lifting and securing techniques.
    • Operates and maintains specialized equipment, including wheelchair lifts, ramps, and patient securing devices.
    • Assists passengers in and out of the vehicle and to their destination, providing a professional and courteous service.
    • Maintains a compassionate and understanding demeanor, addressing patient and family needs and concerns throughout the transport process.
  • Vehicle Operation and Maintenance:
    • Operates a non-emergent transportation vehicle safely, following all traffic laws and company driving policies.
    • Conducts daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and in good working order.
    • Reports any vehicle mechanical issues, damage, or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.
  • Documentation and Communication:
    • Accurately completes all required paperwork, including trip logs, passenger manifests, and other documentation.
    • Communicates professionally with dispatch, medical staff, and patients to confirm schedules and provide updates on transport status.
    • Maintains a high level of patient confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
Required

Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent and safe driving record.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, family members, and medical personnel.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused attitude.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under various circumstances.
  • Knowledge of local geography and road systems to plan efficient routes.
  • Physical ability to operate specialized equipment and assist passengers.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Prior experience in a transportation or customer service role is preferred.
  • Experience assisting individuals with mobility issues is a significant advantage.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able lift and assist patients and equipment, which may include pushing/pulling wheelchairs and securing passengers.
  • This role requires frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to assist passengers and operate equipment.
  • The ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
Other Duties:
