Staff Accountant / Tax Preparer
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Staff Accountant / Tax Preparer to join a growing tax and accounting practice. This role is ideal for someone who has experience working in a busy tax office and is looking for an opportunity to continue building their skills in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and assist with individual, corporate, partnership, and estate tax returns
- Assemble, organize, and review client documents in preparation for tax return completion
- Gather and summarize financial information, including bank statements, receipts, and supporting documentation
- Assist with preparation of financial statements, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analysis
- Support bookkeeping and accounting functions using double-entry accounting principles
- Prepare or help gather information needed for business tax returns, with an immediate focus on corporate/business return support
- Analyze financial data and prepare detailed reports for internal use or client deliverables
- Communicate clearly with clients and team members in person, by phone, and via email
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations
- Build and develop client relationships over time, with the potential to take on and grow a client base
- 2+ years of tax preparation experience required
- Experience in a fast-paced tax office strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of individual and business tax preparation
- Familiarity with corporate tax returns and comfort working with business clients is required
- Understanding of accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, debits, and credits
- Experience preparing financials or gathering information needed to prepare financial statements
- Proficiency with Quick Books Desktop and Quick Books Online
- Experience with Pro Series tax software strongly preferred
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook/email platforms
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a demanding environment
- CTEC preferred; EA is a plus, though not required
