Mid-Valley Engineering (MVE) is a full-service land development firm providing civil engineering, land surveying, and development solutions throughout California and the western United States. With over five decades of experience, our team works on a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial, and public infrastructure projects.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to support the growth of our Construction Staking Division. The Estimator will be responsible for identifying bidding opportunities, reviewing project plans and specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals, and developing relationships with contractors, developers, and public agencies. This position plays a key role in business development by helping secure new infrastructure, roadway, utility, and site development projects requiring construction staking and surveying services.
Key Responsibilities- Review project plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements for public and private infrastructure projects.
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates and proposals for construction staking and related surveying services.
- Analyze project scope, labor requirements, schedules, and resource needs to determine project costs.
- Coordinate with survey managers, field crews, project managers, and engineering staff to develop pricing strategies and project execution plans.
- Identify and track bidding opportunities through public agency postings, contractor invitations, and industry networks.
- Maintain and update bid logs, proposal databases, and client records.
- Communicate with general contractors, subcontractors, developers, and public agencies to clarify project requirements and establish relationships.
- Participate in business development activities, including client outreach, networking, and follow-up on submitted proposals.
- Support contract negotiations and project handoff after award.
- Monitor market conditions, industry trends, and competitor activity to improve bidding success.
- Experience in estimating, surveying, civil construction, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software; experience with surveying or civil construction software is a plus.
- Knowledge of public works, infrastructure, utility, roadway, and site development projects is desirable.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
