Part‑Time Instructor of Child Development – School of Language Arts and Education – Modesto Junior College
LocationModesto Junior College
SalaryThe hourly rate ranges from $78.15 to $124.94. Doctorate holders may earn between $92.09 and $128.22 per hour. Part‑time faculty office hours are compensated at a flat rate of $30 per hour.
BenefitsNot eligible for district benefit programs, except for Workers’ Compensation coverage.
Scope of AssignmentThe successful candidate will join the Child Development program to design and implement curriculum responsive to student needs and to advance student equity.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, OR a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above combined with a Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of and ability to assess the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Sensitivity to challenges associated with student diversity.
- Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move around an office, and reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle papers, write, and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds.
- Visual requirements: sufficient close vision to read documents and computer screens.
- Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
- Emotional/Psychological factors: ability to make decisions, concentrate, and manage frequent public contact and deadlines.

- Competency in innovative pedagogies that enhance student success and equity.
- Recent experience working with African American, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students and understanding of exclusionary patterns in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to better support racially minoritized students.
- Experience addressing equity issues in the classroom.
- Expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Child Development focused on students’ lives, interests, and communities.
- Ability to address equity gaps within coursework and classroom.
- Teach lower‑division Child Development courses.
- Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction aligned with course outlines.
