Job Title
Part‑time Instructor of Hospitality Management – Career Technical Education – Columbia College 2025‑2026
Scope of AssignmentThe successful candidate will join a Hospitality Management program that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.
BenefitsNot Eligible for Benefits. With the exception of Workers’ Compensation coverage, not eligible to participate in the District’s benefit programs.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience in Hospitality Management / Culinary Arts, or an associate degree in Hospitality Management / Culinary Arts and six years of professional experience. The professional experience must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.
- Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.
- Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Visual requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents and computer screens; ability to adjust focus frequently.
- Hearing/talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak on the telephone and in person.
- Emotional/psychological factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including public interaction; frequent deadlines and time‑limited assignments.
- Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and improve student equity.
- Enthusiasm for the learning process.
- Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Participation in professional growth and remaining current in subject area and major state initiatives.
- Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity.
- Vision and energy to plan and organize programs to enhance student success.
- Willingness to participate effectively in shared governance and collaborate with others.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills, community engagement, and public presentation ability.
- Education and/or experience in teaching Hospitality Management / Culinary Arts at the community college level.
- Current knowledge of Culinary Arts practices.
- Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program and degree level.
- Competence in new pedagogies such as contextualized learning and other student‑success‑focused approaches.
- Recent experience working with minoritized students and understanding of historic exclusion patterns in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and remedy instructional and relational practices to support racially minoritized students.
- Experience addressing equity issues and culturally responsive teaching in education.
- Demonstrated ability to reduce equity gaps within coursework.
- Knowledge of Hispanic‑Serving designation practices.
- Relevant industry certification and/or Current Serv Safe Food Handler Instructor and Proctor status.
- Experience in commercial kitchen settings including fine dining and institutional food service.
- Experience in external learning experiences with local employers and associations.
- Teach lower‑division college courses in Hospitality Management.
- Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction aligned with course outlines.
- Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies.
- Prepare and grade assignments and examinations; communicate academic progress.
- Maintain attendance, course records and submit them according to program policy.
- Develop, implement and assess student‑learning outcomes; use results for continuous improvement.
