Child Development Center Master Teacher* (3 positions)
School of Language Arts and Education - Modesto Junior College

SalaryMonthly: $4,814 to $6,140 (Range 30, Classified Salary Schedule). Appointments begin at the first step; subsequent steps paid after each year of satisfactory service.
Work Hours40 hours per week, 12 months per year (Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; evening and weekend hours may be required).

Responsibilities- Coordinate, plan, organize and provide instruction, motivation, and guidance to infants and preschool children in social, behavioral, motor, cognitive, and language development skills.
- Serve as a technical resource, explaining policies, regulations, and procedures to faculty, students, staff, and the public; participate in outreach activities.
- Evaluate, observe, and document the work of student and practicum teachers as assigned.
- Coordinate activities for children with special needs, ensuring full inclusion.
- Design and deliver a variety of instructional aids and materials based on program guidelines.
- Establish and maintain standards of child behavior using behavior modification and reinforcement techniques.
- Provide for the physical needs of children, including diaper changes, toilet training, feeding, and nap areas.
- Assist with meal preparation, snack service, and cleanup.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences, inform parents of child progress, and develop parent participation projects.
- Offer parent education on nutrition, hygiene, and childcare via demonstrations and examples.
- Perform light housekeeping to maintain clean and sanitary conditions of equipment, bedding, and utensils.
- Monitor children for signs of ill health or emotional concerns.
- Chart growth and developmental progress and produce written evaluation reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of child growth and development principles, instructional strategies for infants and toddlers, lesson planning, behavior management, and age‑appropriate materials.
- Ability to design and implement effective training programs, assess educational needs, manage a welcoming environment, follow written and oral directions, train subordinate staff, communicate effectively, and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Education:
Completion of 24 semester units in early childhood or child development (including 12 semester units in school‑age education), 16 general education units, 6 specialization units, and 2 adult supervision units. - Experience:
Minimum of 350 days (at least 3 hours per day) caring directly for children during the last four years.
- Valid Child Development Permit as a Master Teacher (or higher) from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, or a bachelor’s degree with required coursework and supervised field experience.
- A valid California driver’s license may be required depending on assignment.
- Mobility: sit, walk, or stand for extended periods.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation to operate a keyboard, write, and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Visual and hearing: sufficient vision and hearing for reading, telephone, and in‑person communication.
- Emotional: ability to make decisions, concentrate, and handle substantial public contact.
- Work primarily in a childcare center and on outdoor activities.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may occur.
