Part‑Time Librarian – Library and Learning Center / Instruction – Modesto Junior College (2025‑2026)

Salary Range: $54.27 – $86.76 hourly (Doctorate Range: $63.95 – $89.04). Part‑Time Faculty office hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

The successful candidate will join a library that supports students, college employees, and community members in accessing high‑quality resources to support the college’s curriculum and lifelong learning.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science (MLS or MLIS from an ALA‑accredited program), or a California Community College Instructor credential appropriate to the subject, or the equivalent.
- Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.
- Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close‑up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
- Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
- Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time‑limited assignments.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity.
- Current knowledge of informational literacy and research help practices in a world influenced by artificial intelligence.
- Experience providing instruction in an academic library and in the classroom.
- Awareness of various learning styles and teaching strategies.
- Recent experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in libraries and the classroom.
- Enthusiastic approach to working collaboratively with students and faculty.
- Willingness to facilitate students’ learning by developing varied and innovative learning environments.
- Experience with Primo, Lib Guides, Lib Answers, and various electronic databases such as Gale and EBSCO.
- Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and improve student equity.
- Enthusiasm for the learning process.
- Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Participation in professional growth and remaining current in subject area and major state initiatives.
- Effective public presentation skills and community engagement.
- Experience working in libraries, especially at the community college level.
- Experience providing library instruction in an academic setting.
- Experience with culturally responsive teaching in information literacy.
- Experience with library management software.
- Willingness to facilitate student learning by developing varied and innovative learning environments.
- Ability to respond to an ever‑changing environment with humor.
- Ability to multitask with different software programs and platforms.
- Adaptability and willingness to seek help when needed.
- Provide information literacy, research help, and other library services.
- Create and maintain learning objects, such as tutorials and research guides.
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Staff the reference desk using in‑person, chat, email, and telephone research help.
- Conduct bibliographic instruction or a wide range of classes as requested.
- Participate in collection projects and other assignments as needed.
