Position Overview
The Library Manager III is a senior leadership role responsible for the effective operation of the Salida Library under the direction of a Library Operations Manager. The incumbent may work evening and weekend hours and will supervise Librarian I/II and Library Assistants, supporting system‑wide collection development and community partnerships.
Responsibilities- Provide excellent reference, referral, and readers’ advisory services.
- Develop and implement programming and promote system‑wide programs and services.
- Attend outreach and community events and serve as liaison to Friends of the Library and municipal advisory bodies.
- Maintain an attractive print collection and support system‑wide collection development.
- Supervise staff and volunteers, including recruiting, training, evaluating, and approving timesheets.
- Develop weekly desk schedules, arrange substitutes, and coordinate building maintenance needs.
- Inspect building and grounds, conduct safety inspections, and submit maintenance work orders.
- Attend monthly Municipal Advisory Council meetings, senior leadership meetings, and staff briefings.
- Participate in regional and system‑wide committees and recommend library policy.
- Act as Program Manager for the Salida Library Passport Program and Book Club in a Box program.
- Collect and report branch statistics, prepare annual branch budget, and handle cash and bank deposits.
- Prepare incident and on‑the‑job reports as needed.
- Participate in the establishment of long‑range goals, plans, and objectives of the library.
- Public library purposes, principles, organization, and procedures.
- Principles of supervision and training.
- Supervise, train, coordinate, and evaluate work performed by staff and volunteers.
- Plan, develop, implement, and maintain programs and policies for assigned work sections.
- Interpret library policies and procedures and apply them with good judgment.
- Prepare budget recommendations and administer budgets throughout the year.
- Prepare and deliver written and verbal presentations to various groups.
- Make independent decisions while working without direct supervision.
- Understand written and oral instructions.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees, and the public.
- Maintain smooth operation and workflow.
- Keep informed on current trends in literature and library techniques.
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA‑accredited institution.
- Two years of experience as a professional librarian, including one year equivalent to a Librarian II.
- One year of supervisory experience within the two years as a professional librarian.
- Two years of experience in a public library setting.
