Part‑Time Instructor of Animal Science – School of Agriculture

Modesto Junior College (MJC) seeks a part‑time faculty member in Animal Science for the 2025‑2026 academic year.

• Teach lower‑division animal science courses covering animal production, livestock evaluation, nutrition, physiology, and management.
• Design and deliver instruction in classroom, laboratory, and livestock units, including online, evening, and Saturday sessions as needed.
• Communicate course requirements, assessment methods, and attendance expectations; prepare and grade assignments, examinations, and projects.
• Maintain attendance and academic records in accordance with district policy.
• Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes; use data to improve student retention and equity.
• Engage in professional development and mandatory FLEX activities; keep current with animal science and teaching strategies for diverse learners.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethics; contribute to a respectful learning environment.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least two years of professional experience related to teaching, or an associate’s degree and six years of professional experience.
• Knowledge of diverse academic and socioeconomic backgrounds of community college students; sensitivity to student diversity.
• Physical ability to sit or stand for long periods, manipulate a keyboard, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform tasks outlined in the Physical and Mental Standards.

• Experience developing curriculum that emphasizes innovation, experiential learning, and student equity.
• Passion for agriculture and animal science; experience mentoring students through hands‑on experiences.
• Commitment to supportive relationships with students, colleagues, and community partners.
• Professional growth engagement in animal science, livestock management, and state initiatives.
• Ability to operate effectively in changing environments and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Strong communication and public presentation skills related to animal science.

• Teaching experience at the community college level with emphasis on applied and experiential learning.
• Current knowledge of animal science areas such as animal husbandry, livestock production, beef, swine, sheep, dairy, nutrition, reproduction, or veterinary science.
• Practical livestock management, animal handling, and agricultural laboratory instruction experience.
• Experience with assessment processes improving student success.
• Competence in integrating agricultural technologies and pedagogies for equity and success.
• Recent work with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, or other minoritized students.
• Willingness to examine and refine instructional practices for racially diverse learners.
• Knowledge of Hispanic‑Serving institution practices.
