Modesto Junior College (MJC) is seeking a part-time faculty member in Vocational Nursing. The ideal candidate will share MJC's commitment to educating its racially and socio-economically diverse student population. MJC currently serves about 24,000 students annually, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. The successful candidate will join a college already fully engaged in exploring new wrap-around student support services and innovative pedagogical techniques to improve equity and overall student success.
The successful candidate will join a Vocational Nursing department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.

- The Hourly Range: $54.27 to $86.76 Doctorate Range: $63.95 to $89.04 Certified Part-time Non-Instructional Hourly Salary Schedule) Part Time Faculty office hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

Position Summary Information
Scope of Assignment
- Under supervision of the Dean of Health Professions, teach Vocational Nursing courses in accordance with course descriptions, outlines and class schedules; evaluate progress of students, advise students concerning educational matters, and participate in activities that strengthen student success. The Vocational Nursing program is a hybrid evening program with face-to-face in person labs.
Minimum Qualifications - MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. At least one-year continuous, full time or its equivalent experience in the designated nursing area within the previous five years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care. Recent experience may include teaching in the area of nursing.
Desirable Qualifications - DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS Ability to serve as a professional role model to assist students to develop professional and ethical values and to maintain high standards of Vocational Nursing practice. Ability to effectively instruct, supervise and evaluate students in all aspects of Vocational Nursing Ability to work effectively in a close, collaborative team environment with other Vocational Nursing faculty. Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and improve student equity.
Enthusiasm for the learning process. Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues. Participate in professional growth and remain current in subject area and major state initiatives. Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity. Vision and energy to plan and organize programs to enhance student success. Willingness to participate effectively in shared governance and to work collaboratively.
Personal qualifications such as effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations.
Example of Duties - GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Part of the counseling assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teach lower division courses and clinical in Vocational Nursing Advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines. Informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements. Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress. Implementing program philosophy, objectives, policies and curriculum. Supervising student practice of new skills.
Assisting students with remedial skills practice as needed and communicating progress to Vocational Nursing team. Serving as skills evaluator. Maintaining a comprehensive system of records for students in the clinical setting which may include student evaluations, grade book, clinical grids, competency testing, submission of clinical clearance records, positive attendance records, computer training records, semester checklists, etc. Assisting with coordinating scheduling of pre and post conference meetings.
Providing for orientation of students in preparation for clinical setting Assisting with program-related activities Maintaining attendance, scholastic, and other records and submitting them according to published policies and deadlines.
