Part‑Time Instructor of Accounting – Modesto Junior College 2025‑2026

Modesto Junior College (MJC) seeks a part‑time faculty member in Accounting to deliver lower‑division courses, support student equity, and contribute to departmental initiatives.

Salary and Benefits

Hourly rate: $54.27 – $86.76. Doctorate holders: $63.95 – $89.04. Office hour compensation: $30 per hour. Candidates are not eligible for district benefits, except Workers’ Compensation coverage.

Responsibilities
  • Teach lower‑division accounting courses, including Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Tax Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Computer Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Personal Finance.
  • Prepare, deliver, and grade assignments and examinations; maintain academic records in accordance with published policies and deadlines.
  • Engage in department meetings, program improvement initiatives, and activities that advance equitable student learning.
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes; use data and self‑assessment to devise strategies for student success and equity.
  • Participate in mandatory professional development activities to fulfill FLEX requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter and effective teaching/learning strategies for diverse learning styles.
  • Adhere to professional conduct and ethical standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in accountancy or business administration with an accounting concentration, or Bachelor’s in business with an accounting emphasis (or related major) plus a Master’s in business, business administration, business education, economics, taxation, finance, or equivalent.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s in accountancy or business administration with an accounting concentration and a CPA license meets the requirement.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Ability to design assignments and projects that encourage innovation and critical thinking.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and the subject matter.
  • Completion of an online teaching certification.
  • Application of effective instructional practices and inclusive teaching methods.
  • Commitment to building supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Willingness to collaborate with departmental faculty.
  • Participation in professional organizations and awareness of current workforce needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry experience in public accounting or management accounting (minimum 5 years).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) licensure.
  • Current knowledge of accounting industry trends.
  • Familiarity with accounting applications and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to relate academic content to real‑world application.
Physical and Mental Standards
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for extended periods, move around an office, and reach above and below desk level.
  • Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle papers, write, and take notes.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual: sufficient near vision to read documents and computer screens; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, converse on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological: capacity for decision making, concentration, and handling frequent contact and deadlines.
