Modesto Junior College (MJC) is seeking a part‑time faculty member in chemistry to teach and support students in the Analytical Chemistry Technician Certificate program. The successful candidate will join a department committed to equity and student success.
Position SummaryTeach courses, maintain instrumentation, develop curriculum, support student equity, and fulfill institutional responsibilities.
Hourly PayHourly range: $54.27 to $86.76 (certified part‑time, 2025‑2026). No benefits except Workers’ Compensation.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s in chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, or equivalent.
- Two years experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory operating GC‑MS, HPLC, FTIR, FTNMR, ICP‑OES.
- Two years experience following U.S. EPA Methods, maintaining chain‑of‑custody and documentation.
- Knowledge of diverse student backgrounds and sensitivity to student needs.
- Mobility: sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation to operate keyboard, handle papers.
- Lifting: occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Visual requirements: close vision sufficient to read documents and computer screens.
- Hearing/Talking: normal hearing, speak/telephone communication.
- Emotional/Psychological: decision making, public contact, meeting deadlines.
- Develop curriculum or services that promote innovation and student equity.
- Enthusiasm for learning process.
- Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Professional growth, current subject area knowledge, state initiatives.

- Experience addressing equity issues and culturally responsive teaching in chemistry.
- Ability to address equity gaps in coursework.
- Knowledge of Hispanic‑Serving designation practices.
- Teach courses in the Analytical Chemistry Technician Certificate program.
- Maintain equipment used in the program.
- Advance equitable learning through exemplary instruction.
- Inform students of course requirements, evaluation, attendance.
- Prepare and grade assignments and examinations.
- Maintain attendance and other records per published policies.
- Develop, implement, and assess learning outcomes; use results for improvement.
- Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to improve student success and equity.
- Participate in professional development to fulfill FLEX requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge and effective teaching strategies.
- Maintain professional conduct and ethics standards.
