Part‑time faculty office hours paid at $30 per hour.

Scope of Assignment

Under the general supervision of the Division Dean, the instructor will provide lecture and/or laboratory instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, and class schedules; evaluate student progress; advise students on educational matters; and perform related duties as assigned.

The instructor will join an Arts, Science, and Human Performance department dedicated to developing curriculum responsive to student needs and improving student completion by implementing equity‑focused strategies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in any biological science OR Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.

Physical and Mental Standards
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
  • Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment, and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close‑up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time‑limited assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education and/or experience in teaching Biology:
    Physiology at the community college level, especially focusing on basic skills.
  • Current knowledge of Biology:
    Physiology.
  • Understanding of assessment processes for improving student success.
  • Competence in new pedagogies, such as Universal Design and other strategies supporting student equity.
  • Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students.
  • Ability to examine and remediate instructional practices to engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Experience addressing equity issues and culturally responsive teaching in Biology:
    Physiology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hispanic‑Serving designation practices.
Responsibilities
  • Teach lower‑division college courses in Biology:
    Physiology.
  • Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction.
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance expectations.
  • Prepare and grade assignments and examinations; inform students of their progress.
  • Maintain attendance, scholastic, and other records and submit them according to published policies and deadlines.
  • Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes for courses and programs; use results for improvement.
  • Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.
  • Participate in professional development activities to fulfill mandatory FLEX requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject area and effective teaching/learning strategies for all learners.
  • Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
