Hourly Range: $78.15 to $124.94

Doctorate Range: $92.09 to $128.22

Part‑time faculty office hours paid at $30 per hour.

Scope of Assignment

The successful candidate will join a History department that creates curriculum responsive to student needs and seeks to increase student completion through equity strategies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in History/Political Science OR a Bachelor's in History/Political Science with a Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science, or ethnic studies.
  • Master’s in political science, government, or international relations OR a Bachelor's in any of those fields with a Master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, or any ethnic studies.
  • Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) OR equivalent.
  • Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
  • Sensitivity to the needs, problems, and challenges of a diverse student population.
  • Minimum qualifications are determined by the California State Chancellor’s Office.

  • Ability to develop curriculum or services that emphasize innovation and improve student equity.
  • Enthusiasm for the learning process.
  • Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Engagement in professional growth and staying current in subject area and state initiatives.

  • Vision and energy to plan and organize programs to enhance student success.

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, and public presentation ability.
  • Education or experience teaching History/Political Science at the community‑college level, especially basic skills.
  • Current knowledge of History/Political Science and assessment processes for student success.
  • Competence in modern pedagogies such as Universal Design and other equity‑oriented methods.
  • Experience working with African American, Hispanic, Native American, or other minoritized students and understanding exclusionary patterns.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to better support racially minoritized students.
  • Experience addressing equity issues in the classroom and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps in coursework.
  • Knowledge of the Hispanic‑Serving designation for institutional and instructional practices.
Example of Duties
  • Teach lower‑division college courses in History/Political Science.
  • Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction aligned with course outlines.
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Prepare and grade assignments and examinations and inform students of academic progress.
  • Maintain attendance, scholastic, and other records according to published policies and deadlines.
  • Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes for courses and programs and use results for improvement.
  • Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.
  • Participate in professional development activities to fulfill mandatory FLEX requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject area and effective teaching/learning strategies to meet diverse learning styles.
  • Maintain appropriate professional conduct and ethics.
