Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students who may have extreme behavioral issues in a classroom;
Provide direct instruction, monitor, and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assist students in developing various self-help, behavior, social and community skills.

* Possess SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Certificate or other qualifying document (NCLB/ESSA Certificate, transcripts showing a minimum of 48 college semester units or an Associate's Degree or higher). EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and at least two years experience, paid or voluntary, working with children/individuals with disabilities; AND one of the following: possession of an Associate's degree or higher, at least 48 college semester units or pass the (ESSA) Every Student Succeeds Act exam.

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Complete approved SCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment and maintain valid certification. Some positions in this class may be required to possess bilingual skills in a designated second language. Some positions in this class may be required to possess sign language skills. BENEFITS: A Benefit Entitlement for health, dental and vision coverage is available for positions that are at least 4 hours per day.
