Columbia College is seeking a part‑time faculty member in Spanish who will share the college’s commitment to educating its diverse student population. The college currently serves over 4,000 students annually through on‑campus, off‑campus, and online learning opportunities and is committed to promoting equitable outcomes among its diverse population by addressing gaps in student performance. This commitment has led to initiatives supporting veterans, foster youth, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students, Native Americans, students with disabilities, and students from other traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will join a Spanish department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.

Part‑Time pools remain open for up to twelve (12) months. Applications will be viewed by Departments on an “as need” basis near the beginning of each semester.

• Hourly Range: $71.89 to $114.93
• Doctorate Range: $84.71 to $117.95
• Part‑Time Faculty office hours rate: $30 per hour
• Benefits: Not eligible to participate in the District’s benefit programs except for Workers’ Compensation coverage.

• Master’s in Spanish OR Bachelor’s in Spanish AND Master’s in another language or linguistics OR equivalent.
• Knowledge of and ability to appraise diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.

• Education and/or experience teaching Spanish at the community college level, with emphasis in basic skills.
• Current knowledge of Spanish.
• Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
• Competent in new pedagogies such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online or hybrid teaching, Universal Design.
• Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students, and understanding of how historical exclusion shapes participation and outcomes.
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to effectively engage racially minoritized students.
• Experience and skill with addressing equity issues in the classroom.
• Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Spanish related to students’ lives, interests, and communities.
• Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom.
• Knowledge of the Hispanic‑Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.

• Teach lower‑division college courses in Spanish.
• Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction.
• Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
• Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations and inform students of progress.
