Job Summary

Basic Function:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students in a classroom; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assist students in developing various self-help, social and community skills.

Requirements / Qualifications

SCOE Substitute Para Educator Application Copy of SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test certificate. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements but did not submit a copy of the SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test certificate or an equivalent will receive an email invitation to attend the testing. OR one of the following: SCOE ESSA/NCLB test certificate, CBEST or transcripts showing date AA Degree or higher was awarded.

Must be at least 18 years of age. Additional Documents:
The following documents are NOT required at the time of application but will be required of the selected applicant prior to employment:
Department of Justice Fingerprint clearance Tuberculosis Skin Test clearance Physical/drug screen clearance Original signed Social Security Card with current name on it (for payroll purposes) Picture I.D.

Experience:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities is preferred. All VOLUNTEER work must be stated in DETAIL in the "Record of Work Experience" section of the application. Physical Demands:
Lifting light-medium weighted objects. Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus and standard office and classroom equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Sitting to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Licenses and Other Requirements:
Some positions may require bilingual skills in a designated second language. Some positions in this class may be required to possess sign language skills. Hazards:
Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals. Exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
