Position Information

• The Hourly Range: $78.15 to $124.94
• Doctorate Range: $92.09 to $128.22
• Part Time Faculty office Hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural area (including: agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, agronomy, animal science, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science)

Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS

• Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about office, classroom, laboratory, and farm environments, and reach above and below desk or equipment level.
• Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle papers, tools, or agricultural instruments, and write and take notes.
• Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, tools, field equipment, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Visual Requirements: close and distance vision sufficient to read files, documents, computer screens, and observe field and lab activities; ability to adjust focus frequently.
• Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and communicate in person in indoor and outdoor environments.
• Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions, manage farm/lab safety, concentrate, and meet deadlines while maintaining frequent contact with students, colleagues, and community members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and/or experience in teaching agriculture, with an emphasis on applied agricultural sciences and hands-on instruction.
• Current knowledge of one or more agricultural disciplines including plant, animal, dairy, environmental science/natural resources, horticulture, agribusiness, and agricultural mechanics.
• Experience in practical agricultural operations and laboratory or field-based education.
• Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
• Competence in integrating new agricultural technologies, applied sciences, and pedagogies directed at improving student success and equity.
• Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students in the classroom.
• Willingness to examine and refine instructional practices to effectively engage racially diverse learners.
• Experience and expertise in culturally responsive agricultural teaching as it relates to the relevancy of students’ lives, communities, and regional industries.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.
