Crystal Creamery is the largest privately owned dairy in California, offering a full line of value‑added milk products, including fluid milk, milk bi‑products, sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter, juices, water, dry powders, and mixes. The company operates manufacturing plants in Modesto, Fresno, and Fernbridge, California, and distributes products throughout the Western United States via direct store delivery, distributor routes, and direct to customer warehouses.
Position OverviewCrystal Creamery is currently looking for a Plant Controls Engineer to continuously evaluate and improve the reliability and effectiveness of the plant’s process control systems. The role collaborates closely with Maintenance, Operations, and other plant departments to provide technical support, configure control modules, batch programs, and HMI graphics, and implement new projects.
Responsibilities- Provide day‑to‑day technical support for process control systems.
- Support implementation of new projects by configuring control modules, batch programs, and HMI graphics.
- Continuously improve process control systems through Advanced Process Control, Alarm Management, and Operator Interface Optimization.
- Program and integrate PLCs, HMIs, plant software applications, SQL databases, OPC servers, plant networking, and process controls.
- Train end users on operations of newly installed or modified process and control systems.
- Standardize control system designs, document operation procedures, as‑built drawings, and logic.
- Act as the plant liaison for new system start‑up and commissioning with outside controls contractors and system integrators.
- Perform routine and specialized maintenance of instruments and controls involved in the production process.
- Plan, analyze, and control the quality of processes as part of a team.
- Provide ongoing technical training to other team members as part of cross‑training.
- Manage daily operations for the assigned shift.
- Inspect, repair, and adjust PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment using electrical test equipment, circuit diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Repair or replace instruments and control systems that fail, ensuring all operation processes are continuously monitored.
- Maintain and update all process control servers.
- Review, maintain, and update all manufacturing network systems.
- Maintain and update all interfaces between process controls, business systems, and other network systems, including GE iFix.
- Adapt and change processes as needed to current conditions.
- Communicate orally and in writing with management, co‑workers, and Operations.
- Routinely update Track‑It work orders as work assignments progress.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Technology, or related military service training programs.
- Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience in industrial control system development and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience with Allen Bradley PLCs.
- Proven experience with GE iFix, Rockwell, Wonderware, Control Net, and Device Net HMI or SCADA software packages.
- Experience with Rockwell’s Manufacturing Intelligence Platform (Factory Talk).
- Strong PLC skills with expertise in system administration, maintenance activities, hardware and software troubleshooting, and debugging.
- Programming experience in multiple IEC 61131‑3 compliant languages such as RSLogix 5000, Visual Basic, and PHP.
