Role Description This full-time remote Underwriter role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting residential mortgage loan files, with a focus on Non-QM and agency products. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing loan applications, credit reports, income documentation, assets, and collateral to ensure loans meet company and investor guidelines. The Underwriter will analyze risk, issue conditional approvals, clear conditions, and make final lending decisions while maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
The role also involves collaborating closely with brokers, loan officers, processors, and internal teams to resolve issues, improve file quality, and support timely loan closings. The Underwriter is expected to manage a pipeline efficiently, maintain high accuracy, and contribute to continuous process improvements.
Qualifications
- Strong mortgage underwriting skills, including experience with Non-QM and agency loan products and familiarity with investor and GSE guidelines.
- Proficiency in analyzing credit, income, assets, and collateral, with the ability to interpret complex financial documents (tax returns, bank statements, profit and loss statements).
- Knowledge of mortgage lending regulations, compliance standards, and risk management principles within wholesale lending environments.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with brokers, loan officers, processors, and internal teams in a remote setting.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance risk and customer-focused solutions within established policies.
- Experience using loan origination systems (LOS), automated underwriting systems (AUS), and related mortgage technology platforms.
- Ability to manage a high-volume pipeline, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic market.
- Previous experience as a mortgage underwriter in wholesale or correspondent lending; DE, LAPP, or Non-QM certifications are a plus.
- Relevant education such as an associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
