Join our team as a GIS (Geospatial Data Science) and be at the forefront of innovation in wine grape production. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where diverse talents and perspectives drive our success in advancing digital agriculture practices. As an intern, you will contribute to research and production support initiatives that aim to enhance yield, fruit composition, and wine quality.
You will work alongside experts from various Wine growing Research disciplines and collaborate with internal partners and leading industry and academic collaborators.
You will process and analyze geospatial data from satellite and drone imagery, soil maps, climate information, and ground observations. Using machine learning, you will contribute to projects involving crop health monitoring, disease detection, yield prediction, and vine water status. You will also use Python, R, and cloud computing to automate spatial data processing and help develop accurate, high-quality spatial databases.
- Interns will develop and apply GIS and remote sensing solutions for advancing vineyard management and grape production practices.
- Assigned tasks include utilizing machine learning techniques to monitor crop health, disease detection, yield prediction, and vine water status.
- Interns will learn how GIS is applied to wine grape production across a wide-range of California production regions, grape varieties, and growing practices.

What You’ll Need- Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the School of Computer Science, School of Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Life Science, or Natural Resources; OR have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the School of Computer Science, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences or Natural Resources.
- Available for the entire duration of the internship program area(s) of interest.
- Strong applied technical skills and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Requires availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Required to be 21 years of age.
