The City of Modesto is currently seeking a candidate to join our Composting Operations Team as a Compost Facility Supervisor. The Compost Facility Supervisor is responsible to plan, organize, direct, and supervise the work of crews engaged in compost site operations, maintenance, repair, and/or construction work; and to perform a variety of technical tasks related to assigned area of responsibility.
We are seeking a candidate with experience managing all aspects of composting operations including daily processing of material, supervision of employees, maintaining safety standards, compliance with government regulations, and the sales/marketing of end products.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for operating, repairing, and maintaining the City’s compost facility; implement policies and procedures.
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff involved in the operations, maintenance, repair, and construction of City compost facility activities, infrastructure, equipment, grounds, and land.
Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and control expenditures.
Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training, including in the full range of compost facility operations, maintenance, repair, and construction; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
Coordinate the work unit safety program, including ensuring that training is provided as appropriate.
Manage the sales of organic products to landscapers, wholesalers, retailers, farmers, nurseries, and governmental agencies.
Ensure product quality programs are followed and processing standards are met.
Achieve productivity and throughput standards through staff training and process planning.
Assist in estimating and scheduling work and in determining type and quantities needed for such work.
Oversee sales and marketing initiatives related to compost products.
Assist in project management.
