Simile Construction is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to serve as the company’s senior financial and accounting leader and a key member of the executive leadership team.

This position is responsible for leading all accounting operations while providing the financial leadership necessary to support the company’s continued growth. The Director of Finance combines the responsibilities of an experienced Construction Controller with strategic financial planning, business analysis, and executive partnership.

The Director of Finance works closely with the President, Director of Operations, Director of Preconstruction & Estimating, Project Managers, and executive leadership to ensure the company maintains accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, disciplined cash management, and reliable financial information that supports sound business decisions.

As Simile Construction continues to grow, this individual will play an important role in strengthening the company’s financial systems, improving reporting, enhancing forecasting, and building scalable processes that support long-term success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide leadership and oversight of all accounting operations, including:

  • Monthly financial statement preparation
  • Month-end and year-end close
  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable
  • Payroll oversight
  • Fixed assets
  • Tax coordination
  • Audit coordination

Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while creating scalable financial systems and procedures.

Lead all construction-specific financial management activities, including:

  • Monthly Work in Progress (WIP) preparation
  • Revenue recognition
  • Percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Job cost accounting
  • Cost-to-complete forecasting
  • Over/under billing analysis
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Retainage management

Lead monthly financial review meetings with the Director of Operations and Project Managers.

Partner with Operations to improve project financial performance, identify project risks early, and improve forecasting accuracy.

Prepare and present timely financial information, including:

  • Balance Sheet
  • Income Statement
  • Cash Flow Statement
  • WIP Reports
  • Department Performance Reporting

Provide executive leadership with meaningful financial analysis that supports informed business decisions.

Financial Planning & Business Strategy

Develop and maintain:

  • Company overhead analysis
  • Department financial analysis
  • Breakeven analysis
  • Capacity planning models
  • Cash flow projections

Evaluate the long-term financial implications of strategic business decisions and provide recommendations that improve profitability and financial performance.

Maintain and strengthen relationships with:

  • Banking institutions
  • Surety partners
  • Insurance broker

Partner with ownership regarding:

  • Banking relationships
  • Working capital management
  • Capital expenditures
  • Insurance renewals

Review major contracts from a financial perspective, including payment terms, retainage, billing schedules, cash flow implications, and financial risk.

Organizational Development & Continuous Improvement

Serve as a strategic business partner who continuously evaluates the health and scalability of the organization beyond traditional accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Continuously evaluate financial systems, accounting processes, and reporting procedures to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Develop meaningful KPI dashboards and executive reporting that improve visibility into company performance.
  • Partner with executive leadership to improve budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial decision-making.
  • Evaluate business systems and workflows to identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement.
  • Support strategic initiatives including ERP implementation, process improvements, and financial reporting enhancements.
