Registered Nurse; RN - Manager, Cardiac Stepdown

Tenet North Cal is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Manager, Cardiac Stepdown for a nursing job in Modesto, California.

Reporting to the Director of Patient Care Services, the Shift Manager utilizes the nursing process and organizational/leadership skills to coordinate services of staff to patients during the designated shift. Assures patient care is appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served. Assesses staff need for the unit, collaborates with the staffing coordinator, Nurse Director, and Administrative Nursing Supervisor to ensure patients needs are met.

• Determines staffing requirements to assure safe and competent patient care, considering patient acuity, age-specific needs, staff skill mix, and individual patient’s plan of care when making assignments.
• Assists the Nurse Director with employee evaluations and performance management, utilizing observation techniques, chart review, and patient interviews to evaluate staff nurse performance and quality of patient care delivered.
• Assists the Nurse Director in developing unit goals and plans for evaluating and achieving those initiatives.
• Assists Director with schedules, time and attendance, reports, documents, and files.
• Demonstrates basic understanding of budget requirements, maintaining supplies and productivity within guidelines and developing strategies to effectively utilize “down time” on designated shift.
• Ensures medication carts are re-stocked and cleaned before next shift; ensures unit is neat and clean, hallways are free of clutter, and stock delivery is put away daily.
• Seeks and accepts responsibility for committee participation, special projects, and teaching presentations.
• Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal‑oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team.
• Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age.
• Provides appropriate nursing interventions; competent in all routine nursing skills and identified unit-specific skills.
• Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate interventions in patient care emergencies and follows established emergency procedures, taking appropriate action and developing others’ ability to do so.
• Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice, evaluating effectiveness of care performed.
• On a daily basis maintains Pharmacy refrigerator logs, crash cart logs, staffing logs and restraint logs.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job‑specific responsibilities related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, and control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the hospital’s environment of care plan.
• Demonstrates a proactive approach and commitment to change, seeking opportunities to improve quality and promote the positive acceptance of change.
• Resolves all Pharmacy discrepancies before leaving at the end of shift, ensuring narcotics counts and Sure Med verifications are done per hospital policy.
• Maintains updated PCSS information on a shift‑by‑shift basis, ensuring shift notes, daily assignments, adverse events and acuity levels are completed by PCSS guidelines and that shift turnover is completed on schedule.
• Demonstrates the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and use time efficiently to complete work on time and in an organized manner.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for departmental process improvement initiatives, utilizing appropriate communication channels and implementing committee‑approved changes.
• Maintains appropriate, confidential inter‑facility and interagency communications when applicable.
• Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of all age groups of patients, modifying nursing care to meet age‑specific requirements for adults (18‑70 years) and geriatric (71+ years).
• Responds to life‑threatening dysrhythmias on telemetry and takes appropriate action.
