About Music Kids

Music Kids is looking for enthusiastic educators to join our team for the  school year to teach beginning level violin, piano, and guitar.

Music Kids is a program offering small group classes—usually 2 to 4 students each—and some individual lessons on‑site at partner schools.

The Organization

Music Kids exists to enrich and improve student development by bringing musical instrument education into the local school environment. To date, the organization has taught thousands of students at over 90 partner schools across DC, MD, VA, IL, MO, MA, NY, CT, CA, PA, and WA.

Position Overview

Faculty Members teach small group classes in one or more partner schools and spend paid time outside of classes managing student records, updating parents, and supporting students virtually.

Job Requirements
  • Commit to one academic year at a time (typically 10 months, mid‑August to mid‑June). Additional summer employment is possible.
  • Availability on several weekdays after school (2 pm–6 pm) and for office hours on one or more weekdays.
  • Annual salary ranges for full‑time (30 hr/week) 10‑month positions: Year 1 – $34,320 to Year 5 – $51,480. Salary listed is monthly full‑time.
  • 40 hrs/week may be required if schedules allow.
  • Additional benefits for those working ≥20 hrs include PTO, holidays, and medical. Commute time bonuses are available.
  • Candidates must reside in the United States, be legally qualified to work, and pass customary background checks.
Responsibilities
  • In‑school: teach and supervise student performances.
  • Out‑of‑school: communicate with parents, plan lessons, schedule classes, report progress, and provide supplementary virtual learning.
  • Promote the program and drive enrollment at partner‑school events, especially during August/September registration.
  • Participate in professional development with senior faculty and staff.
Ideal Candidate
  • At least 1–2 years of teaching experience, either in music or a traditional classroom setting.
  • Willingness to teach more than one instrument at the beginning level, ideally all three (violin, piano, guitar).
  • Strong interest in working with a wide range of student ages, especially beginning-level children (3–5 y/o).
  • Passion for impacting primary education in the country.
  • Comfortable teaching small groups of 3–4 students.
  • Flexible and creative teaching style, with an open mind to meet students and parents where they are.
  • Initiative and confidence working independently while representing the organization at partner schools.
  • Experience with leadership or project management.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with office staff on administrative and professional development tasks.
  • Reliable, organized, punctual, and possesses friendly verbal and written communication skills.
