Overview
Mokena, Illinois, population approximately 20,000, is a suburban community located approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago in northeastern Will County. The Village of Mokena is a family-oriented community with outstanding schools, parks, and excellent municipal services. ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the financial operations and services of the Village, including accounting, financial reporting, budget preparation, tax levy preparation, coordination of the annual audit, cash and debt management, investments, accounts payable and receivables, payroll, procurement, and related financial administration. The Finance Director also plays a key role in long-term financial planning, capital planning, financial policy development, and supporting the Village’s overall administrative and operational goals.
QualificationsThe Village is seeking candidates with strong leadership, communication, and management skills who wish to join a professional management team. The Finance Director is appointed by the Mayor and Board of Trustees, reports to the Village Administrator, and serves as a member of the Village Administrator’s executive leadership team. The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
Candidates should also have at least five years of progressively responsible public sector finance experience and/or training. A master’s degree, CPA, CPFO, or similar professional credential is desirable. Additional qualifications include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong presentation skills, the ability to think proactively and strategically, experience with municipal budgeting and auditing, knowledge of local government financial practices, and the ability to work effectively with the Village Board, Village Administrator, department heads, staff, and the public.
& Benefits
The advertised salary range is $158,466 to $180,350, depending on experience, qualifications, credentials, and overall fit with the Village’s needs.
