Overview

Salon Manager (BTC1 / BTC2) at JCPenney Salon is dedicated to guiding teams to success by developing stylists and delivering an exceptional client experience every day. The role works up to 8–16 hours per week behind the chair with personal clientele and coaches the team to become top salon professionals while supporting business through marketing and client loyalty.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Client Experience
    • Leads by example in all client interactions and supports stylists to ensure an exceptional experience.
    • Creates an environment that inspires associates to build client loyalty by providing coaching and feedback to ensure consistent execution.
    • Motivates and engages the team to provide exceptional service through consistent communication, coaching and recognition.
    • Provides services including cut/style, chemical services for all hair types and performs other hair styling services to meet or exceed client expectations in a positive, professional manner.
  • Team Development
    • Proactively recruits qualified stylists through social media, targeted recruiting websites, referrals and engaging local salons and cosmetology schools.
    • Provides coaching and feedback that is frequent, balanced, meaningful and improves effectiveness.
    • Creates opportunities for learning that drive associate success throughout their career.
    • Ensures stylists complete available training by scheduling associates for core and artistic education as courses are offered internally.
    • Inspires loyalty, passion, and growth in the salon by creating an inclusive, respectful, professional and fun environment.
  • Business Performance
    • Reviews reports to quickly identify and prioritize areas of opportunity, determines root cause and sets direction to achieve productivity, referral, rebooking, return rate and client acquisition standards.
    • Delivers salary cost objectives to achieve profit plan.
  • Merchandising
    • Reviews SET guidance and makes appropriate adjustments based on salon layout while maintaining core standards.
    • Actively walks the salon and backbar to identify opportunities related to merchandising, replenishment, and recovery.
    • Handles or directs salon team to address product related issues that have biggest impact to the client.
    • Manages backbar expenses to plan.
  • Performance Standards / Programs
    • Consistently meets established performance standards for the role including product and service sales, client experience, productivity and attendance.
    • Reviews and follows all company programs, hiring practices and state safety regulations, and accurately advises salon associates on how to address any related issues.
  • Cosmetology License
    • A current cosmetology license is required in the state you are applying.

Benefits and Compensation

Competitive hourly wage with 50% commission on behind‑chair service sales and 10% commission on retail sold with service.

Eligible for bonus under the Management Incentive Plan.

Pay Range: USD $17.03 – USD $26.02 per hour.
