Business and Grounds Aide

Under direction of the Operations Manager and the Executive Director with latitude for independent judgment and decision-making, is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the building and property and creating a safe and orderly environment for staff and patrons.

• Performs variety of building maintenance functions as needed.
• Maintenance of grounds that includes salting and shoveling of sidewalks, driveways, and other areas not completed by landscaping company.
• Work with Facilities Manager with repairs and more complex building duties.
• Maintenance of grounds that includes trimming trees and bushes, watering of flowers, bushes and trees, weeding, and other grounds work not completed by landscaping company.
• Basic Knowledge of library operations and policies.
• Perform or assess building repairs.
• Maintain SDS Binder.
• Unpack and stock supplies.
• Maintains orderly environment for patrons.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary building and grounds.
• Assist other library staff and departments as needed.
• Report incidents to Supervisor.
• Attends appropriate meeting, workshops, and seminars.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.

Basic overview of skills to repair and maintain building systems. Positive support and service attitude. Proficiency in computer technology and office equipment is a positive. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.

Must be able to hear, comprehend and respond to the library user, both in person and in telephone conversations. Must be able to reach a height of greater than 60 inches. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time during working hours. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and carrying heavy objects (20 to 50 pounds) and pushing. Must be able to walk distances of more than 50 feet within the building to ensure safety and security.

Tasks also require sound perception, visual perception and oral communication.
