The Behavior & Student Support Associate works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff to create a positive learning environment where all students can succeed. This role provides preventative supports, targeted interventions, behavior coaching, and social‑emotional skill development for students in grades K–8.
This position is not primarily disciplinary in nature. Instead, it focuses on teaching skills, solving problems, strengthening relationships, and helping students remain engaged in learning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct support to students needing behavioral, emotional, or self‑regulation assistance.
- Facilitate check‑in/check‑out systems, goal setting, and progress monitoring for identified students.
- Support students during times of dysregulation using calm, safe, and restorative practices.
- Teach replacement behaviors, coping skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution.
- Facilitate small groups focused on social skills, resilience, friendship, organization, or self‑management.
- Partner with classroom teachers to develop effective classroom management and behavior support strategies.
- Model proactive behavior supports, de‑escalation techniques, and restorative conversations.
- Help reinforce and support student behavior plans under the direction of administration and support staff.
- Collaborate with teachers to strengthen routines, transitions, and classroom climate.
- Support school‑wide student support systems and positive behavior practices.
- Assist in creating positive structures for recess, lunch, transitions, and other less‑structured settings.
- Assist with tracking behavior data to identify trends, evaluate interventions, and guide next steps.
- Participate in student support meetings, family conferences, and collaborative planning meetings.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with families regarding student progress and support plans.
- Partner with families to reinforce consistent strategies between home and school when appropriate.
- Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Science, or related field required.
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
- Demonstrated success supporting children with behavioral, emotional, or social needs.
- Knowledge of child development, trauma‑informed practices, and social‑emotional learning.
- Strong relationship‑building, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and solution‑focused in challenging situations.
- Commitment to inclusion, dignity, and student growth.
- At least 4 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
- Experience in a school, charter school, or youth‑serving environment.
- Training in CPI trauma‑informed strategies, de‑escalation, restorative practices, Responsive Classroom, or similar models.
