Position: Ethnic Studies Instructor [Part-Time Faculty Pool]

Ethnic Studies Instructor

Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire one or more Ethnic Studies Instructor to teach courses in Ethnic Studies, Black Studies, Chican@/Latinx Studies, Native American Studies, and/or Asian & Pacific Islander Studies. This is a part-time, faculty, term-by-term, exempt and non-benefits eligible position. We are interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and candidates that may be from a less traditional background.

This is a part-time faculty pool posting for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year  and reviewed based on department need. Job Functions Within the first week of employment, the employee will be expected to
  • Convenes classes on time, as scheduled, and instructs students in a classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate.
  • Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate.
  • Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students for each course.
Within 2 weeks of employment, the employee will be expected to
  • Provides student contact before or after class or through telephone or email exchanges or office hours when facilities and schedules permit.
  • Understands, develops and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity within the college community.
  • Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices.
Within the first month of employment, the employee will be expected to
  • Incorporates the latest classroom technology when available and appropriate to instructional activities.
  • Understands and abides by college policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required by the college, departments or divisions.
  • Understands and uses the college’s computer systems.
Within the term of employment, the employee will be expected to
  • Maintains evaluation and grading records for assigned students; enters grades and provides all necessary documentation for in completes within established college timelines and guidelines.
Auxiliary Job Functions
  • May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies, Chican@/Latinx Studies, Indigenous Studies, Black Studies, API Studies, or Race/Nations/American Studies, or a Master's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of twenty-four (24) quarter credit hours of graduate level coursework in Ethnic Studies, Chican@/Latinx Studies, Indigenous Studies, Black Studies, API Studies.
  • The ability to communicate effectively as a teacher and to operate as an effective member of a team.
