Job Description

Instructional Assistant

Agriculture/Land Lab

Work 6.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, 185 days per year. Anticipated start date:
August 25, 2026.

May include evening and weekend work to respond to livestock and property emergencies. On‑call hours will be compensated.

Position serves Molalla High School/Land Lab.

Goal:
Assist licensed teachers in supervising and teaching students enrolled in the agriculture science program, grades 9–12, on the 50‑acre land lab.

Curriculum Includes
  • Animal Production (nutrition, genetics, diseases, facilities, etc.) including beef cattle, sheep, swine, horses, poultry, rabbits, dogs, cats, and other small animals
  • Plant Production including greenhouse crop production, nursery production, landscape design, and floral design
  • Science Principles with research projects
  • Agricultural mechanics and tractor operation
Essential Requirements

Must have completed two years of higher education, or an Associate’s degree (or higher), or passed a Paraprofessional Assessment.

Requirements include:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; organize and prioritize work; relate to students of varied skills; operate power tools and tractors; pass driver training test (good driving record required); manage students in emotional situations; collaborate with staff, students, parents, volunteers, & community members; follow directions; maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Skills to use position‑specific equipment, standard computer software, basic farm maintenance and general repairs, supervise others, manage time, and organize tasks.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry, classroom management, horticulture, greenhouse crop management.
  • Desired: three years of related experience; bilingual and bicultural skills; university teacher preparation training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Work collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing student social growth.
  • Assist students in the use and application of vocational knowledge, skills, tools, processes, and equipment. May coordinate with business representatives in in‑school or off‑site work environments.
  • Supervise student agriculture interns, including training in tool use, daily operations, and project performance.
  • Oversee daily farm tasks: feeding of livestock, health checks, basic maintenance and repairs, greenhouse crop management (trimming, fertilizing, transplanting, propagating, pest control, watering).
  • Attend and assist students at FFA functions at instructor’s request (evenings, weekends, and some summer support).
  • Pick up teaching supplies from local vendors.
  • Set up student learning stations.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and community members with respect and confidentiality, consistent with staff, administrator, and district policies.
  • Oversee student behavior and safety; intervene when students are out of control or in unsafe situations.
  • Provide instructional support and tutoring in large groups, small groups, and one‑on‑one situations.
  • Document behavior and progress; assist teacher in assessing progress and maintaining student weekly progress reports.
  • Assist instructors in meeting curriculum goals.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Perform clerical duties: copying, operating office equipment, answering telephones, ordering materials, and record keeping.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding, and/or Testing Required
  • High School Diploma (Associates Degree or two years post‑high school education) or successful passage of the written Instructional Assistant competency examination.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR card.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license.
