Position Information
Regular (before and/or after school) positions as well as Alternate (call as needed) positions available.
Under general supervision of the Traffic Police Sergeant, directs traffic in conjunction with the safe movement of children to and from school; limited to those hours when school is opening, recessing, or closing. Alternates are on call to fill in as needed.
Essential Duties- Control children using the crossing to assure they conform to traffic regulations.
- Control vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely.
- Wear reflective safety vest and utilize hand‑held stop sign to ensure high visibility.
- Report flagrant traffic violators to police department.
- Report children who fail to cooperate to school officials.
- Other duties may be assigned.
High school diploma or GED equivalent; or some work experience and completion of a standard grade school course. Valid Illinois driver's license or equivalent required for School Crossing Guard III (Lead).
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Illinois traffic laws and regulations.
Ability and willingness to work effectively with children; react quickly to oncoming traffic; follow oral and written instructions; courteously and tactfully deal with the public. Must have access to reliable transportation. Regular and punctual attendance required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including, but not limited to, wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The City of Moline does not provide benefits to temporary/seasonal employees.
Pay and Work TimesThis position pays $10 per day each for before or after school and $20 per day for both before and after school.
