Overview
Position information for a highway maintenance supervisor role in TXDOT’s Odessa District. The position reports to the Monahans Maintenance Office and supports staff including crew chiefs, equipment operators, and sign technicians. The department offers training programs and opportunities for growth, with a focus on work zone traffic control, equipment operation, herbicide training, guardrail maintenance, and related topics. The role emphasizes building skills, increasing construction/maintenance experience, and career growth.
Responsibilities- Oversee a maintenance section and ensure safe driving and road safety across a geographic area through maintenance of roads, structures, and rights-of-way.
- Supervise technical and clerical employees; respond to emergency notifications as needed; coordinate with governmental officials, private entities, and the public.
- Administer and inspect contracted maintenance activities and monitor road conditions, work in progress, and completed work.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement emergency responses to inclement weather, flooding, accidents, and hazardous material spills affecting area roadways.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate work projects with personnel, equipment, material, and other district staff; ensure projects follow safety guidelines.
- Prepare and monitor the budget; prioritize and assign projects to staff; guide planning and scheduling of personnel, materials, and equipment.
- Oversee maintenance section office activities including human resources, public relations, facilities, inventory management, and general office administration.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment; train other employees; perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Education: High School Grad or equivalent.
Experience: 7 years roadway maintenance or construction-related work (full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Certifications:
Valid driver’s license; must have a valid Commercial Class A Driver License (CDL) with N Endorsement and no restrictions at time of application.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance; plans, specifications, estimates; highway/bridge construction materials;
Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; incident management; safety standards and codes; hazardous materials storage and transport; budgeting; and maintenance contract inspection procedures. - Proficient in supervising technical staff; public relations; planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing work of professional, administrative, and technical employees; coordinating labor, materials, and equipment; administrative support and records management; training.
- Subject to environmental conditions; outside conditions with exposure to weather; extreme cold and heat.
- Subject to noise, vibration, hazards from moving vehicles and machinery, chemicals, and fumes; may require protective gear.
- Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs; frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs; etc.
- Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers; fine visual tasks with measurement devices.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test for safety impact positions; random drug testing may apply.
