McCall-Thomas Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a full-time Electrical (Substation) Engineer or Engineering Assistant (entry-level title for a candidate who has not passed the FE exam).
Job location:
Moncks Corner, SC office or Orangeburg, SC office
This McCall-Thomas Electrical Substation Engineer will be joining a team of dedicated individuals committed to our mission of providing quality solutions and services to our valued clients. The primary responsibilities for this role include:
- Design and implementation of distribution, transmission, and protection and control relay schemes
- Support the specification and procurement of required equipment and materials
- Support field personnel with the installation and testing of substation components
- Design of substation ground grids including performing soil resistivity and fall of potential tests
- Ground grid integrity testing
- NERC FAC-008 inspections
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing, site testing, and commissioning of substation equipment
- Analyze and troubleshoot system issues
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and their integration with relay protection
- Provide power system and protection engineering services and technical assistance to clients
- Prepare technical reports and documentation
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and MS Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other applicable software programs
- Research, investigate, and evaluate new technology and materials
- Perform independent work as well as provide second tier independent review of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, drawing accuracy, BOM, and equipment specifications
- Interact with clients engineering and technical teams on a regular basis; represent McCall-Thomas Engineering positively and professionally and develop and maintain professional relationships with clients
- Continually improve job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, process development, and performance
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
- Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship
- FE within 2 years of hire (after passing FE, this position will have an Engineer-in-Training title)
- PE required within 7 years of hire (with PE license, this job title will be Electrical Engineer)
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record
- willingness to relocate to the Moncks Corner, SC or Orangeburg SC area
- Effective and professional internal/external communications and teamwork.
- Project management, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to multitask.

- Ability to work both in office and field environments.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.

McCall-Thomas Engineering has contracts with several utilities to provide storm damage assessment support in the event of severe weather. Our Electric division full-time employees are required to be available to travel for our Storm Damage Assessment response team when called, either as a Driver or as an Assessor. Details will be discussed in more detail in an interview.
