Bus Driver

Berkeley County, SC

Employment Type:

Temporary/Contract, Non-Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a bus over approved routes in accordance with state laws and regulations.
• Maintain discipline among students being transported and report any misconduct to transportation administrators.
• Ensure cleanliness of the bus and report any damages or equipment failures.
• Assist in scheduling bus stops and planning routes.
• Provide written reports of road hazards on assigned routes.
• Monitor students during boarding and departing the bus.
• Maintain accurate student rosters and seating charts.
• Attend safety meetings and required in‑services.
• Keep up‑to‑date daily records on mileage.
• Administer general first aid when necessary.
• Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid CDL license.
• Successful completion of school bus driver training and certification by the South Carolina Department of Education.
• Good driving record (no more than 4 points against the license).
• Must pass Physical Performance Test, drug test, and criminal background checks.

Skills/Effort:

• Effective communication skills with school administrators and parents.
• Ability to operate wheelchair lift.
• Aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

Working Conditions:

• Work primarily outdoors with moderate exposure to environmental/weather conditions.
• Occasional lifting or movement of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Roles may involve stress associated with tasks requiring attention and meeting deadlines.
• Smoke‑free.
