Position:
Bus Assistant

Location:

Berkeley County, SC

Employment Type:

Temporary/Contract, Non-Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during boarding and departing from the bus.

  • Collaborate with the bus driver to address the special needs of students.

  • Participate in relevant training to enhance proficiency in student-related procedures.

  • Observantly monitor and report any behavioral issues or concerns to the bus driver.

  • Assist students with embarking and disembarking the bus, including operating the wheelchair lift for handicapped students.

  • Provide necessary assistance to handicapped students as required.

  • Stay updated on safety protocols and first aid procedures relevant to the job duties.

  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years old.

  • Familiarity with district policies, practices, and procedures related to the job responsibilities.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with drivers, school staff, and parents.

  • Proficiency in operating the wheelchair lift.

  • Successful completion of the Bus Driver Physical Performance Test (excluding Behind the Wheel).

  • Mandatory CPR certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily outdoors with moderate exposure to environmental/weather conditions.

  • Occasional lifting or movement of items weighing up to fifty pounds.

  • Role may involve stress associated with tasks requiring close attention and adherence to deadlines.

  • Smoke-free district.
