Construction Site Supervisor – Foreperson Job Posting Job Summary
The Construction Site Supervisor (Foreperson) is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a mix of leadership and hands‑on work. This role involves supervising crews, ensuring quality and safety, and performing direct construction tasks across a variety of projects throughout BC. Rotational work and travel may be required depending on project assignments. The ideal candidate is a forward‑thinking problem solver and a team‑oriented leader.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise, direct, and motivate site crews, subcontractors, and trades to achieve project goals.
- Collaborate with Superintendents for task assignments and objectives.
- Plan and schedule daily work in alignment with project milestones.
- Coordinate deliveries, equipment, and material handling to reduce downtime.
- Problem‑solve and assist in decision‑making for site challenges.
- Maintain daily site reports, timesheets, and records of work.
- Communicate clearly with the Superintendent/Project Manager on progress and needs.
- Mentor apprentices and junior crew members.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes.
- Install prefabricated wall panels, floors, roofs, and other structural systems per specifications.
- Perform layout, measuring, cutting, and assembly of wood and other building materials.
- Complete finishing tasks including trim, doors, windows, stairs, and other carpentry.
- Safely operate hand and power tools.
- Install joists, trusses, and rafters.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and plans.
- Take precise measurements and calculate dimensions.
- Select appropriate materials to meet project needs.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure compliance with drawings, codes, and specifications.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and craftsmanship.
- Enforce health & safety policies and conduct toolbox talks.
- Model and follow established safety rules and maintain a safe, clean site.
- Use PPE and ensure all tools and machinery are safe for use.
- Operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Select and source appropriate materials with consideration for durability, strength, and budget.
- Estimate material requirements and costs, managing supplies to avoid waste.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or carpentry training.
- 2–3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
- 3–5 years of carpentry experience with a portfolio of completed projects.
- Safety certifications an asset; crane operator experience/certification preferred.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and carpentry machinery.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and construction drawings.
- Understanding of building performance, envelope, and energy efficiency.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina, coordination, and ability to follow instructions.
- Work performed primarily on construction sites, often in loud, dusty, or hazardous conditions.
- Capable of climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling materials.
- May require working at heights, in confined spaces, or in various weather conditions.
- Shifts are typically 10–12 hours, with overtime expected.
- $37.00 – $43.00 per hour (based on experience).
