Maintenance Electrician in Monessen, PA

The Maintenance Electrician performs industrial electrical maintenance in a heavy manufacturing foundry environment, focusing on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of electrical equipment and power distribution systems. This role works on a rotating three-turn shift schedule and plays a critical part in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment and plant electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform industrial electrical troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on production and facility equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment such as main motor drives, generators, control panels, delays, controllers, switchboards, circuit breakers, lighting circuits, resistors, and related components.
  • Install, repair, and maintain power transmission lines and transformers in an industrial environment.
  • Service and maintain high-tension substation equipment, including disconnects, switch gear, bushings, insulator slings, lightning arrestors, and phase wire grounding equipment.
  • Install and repair conduit, including bending conduit, routing, and securing it according to electrical codes and plant standards.
  • Splice and insulate wires and cables, including making splices on energized (hot) lines when required and in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Isolate circuits safely for repairs and maintenance, ensuring proper lockout/tagout and verification of de-energized systems.
  • Analyze all types of electrical circuits and wiring diagrams to modify, service, install, or repair electronic devices and systems.
  • Install, maintain, and repair various mill electrical equipment, including electronic computing and control systems, power and distribution control equipment, and associated devices.
  • Work with measuring, recording, processing, and control devices, as well as indicating devices, instruments, and gauges used in the production environment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on motors, motor control circuits, 3-phase motors, and motor circuit components to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot and repair DC electrical systems and AC systems, ensuring proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
  • Complete work orders, document repairs, and communicate equipment status to maintenance and operations teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring issues and recommending corrective actions or upgrades to electrical systems.
  • Work safely in an industrial foundry environment, following all safety policies and procedures, including PPE use and safe work practices for high-voltage and energized systems.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, electricians, and production staff to minimize equipment downtime and support smooth plant operations.
  • Participate in training and qualification processes, including testing to advance from learner/apprentice to qualified rate within defined timelines.

Essential Skills

  • Industrial maintenance experience with a strong focus on electrical troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience repairing main motor drives, generators, control panels, delays, controllers, switchboards, circuit breakers, lighting circuits, resistors, and similar electrical equipment.
  • Experience installing, repairing, and maintaining power transmission lines and transformers in an industrial setting.
  • Experience working with high-tension substation equipment such as disconnects, switch gear, bushings, insulator slings, lightning arrestors, and phase wire grounding equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining DC electrical systems and motor circuits.
  • Strong knowledge of motor control systems and 3-phase motors, including diagnosis and repair.
  • Ability to bend, install, and repair conduit in an industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in electrical wiring, splicing, and insulating wires and cables, including performing safe splices on energized lines when required.
  • Ability to isolate circuits safely for repairs, including proper application of lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Skill in reading, analyzing, and interpreting all types of electrical circuits and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to modify, service, install, and repair electronic devices and systems, including mill electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Experience working with power and distribution control equipment, measuring and recording devices, processing and control devices, indicating devices, instruments, and gauges.
  • Willingness and ability to work all shifts on a rotating three-turn schedule, including daylight, afternoon, and overnight shifts.
  • Comfort working in an industrial foundry environment with heavy equipment and energy systems.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established safety procedures and standards.
