This role is an advanced Level 2 technician requiring complex maintenance activities, problem solving, critical thinking, and continuous improvement of processes and equipment reliability. Proficiency at Level 1 for elective areas is expected, and elective specialties may be requested or required based on skill and company needs.
Responsibilities- Perform all process CP, CCP, QP, and CQP checks required for the position.
- Follow reaction plans for Food Safety, Food Quality, and customer requirement deviations.
- Identify and understand customer requirements and assist in assuring proper production operation.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and good housekeeping guidelines.
- Follow safety guidelines, wear designated Personal Protective Equipment, conform to regulatory requirements, and assure Food Safety measures are followed.
- Perform maintenance work within the allocation of time needed to complete; document all work performed and parts used in the CMMS.
- Modify, fabricate, and upgrade production equipment following process change procedure when applicable.
- Perform identified corrective work as assigned and implement preventive maintenance tasks.
- Use preventive and predictive maintenance techniques and tools (e.g., ultrasonic, infrared, oil analysis, vibration analysis, laser alignment) to generate corrective work requests and improve equipment reliability.
- Conduct troubleshooting and repair activities; identify parts, supplies, and tools needed for follow‑up corrective work.
- Track and report pertinent performance metric information to assist in creating action plans and improvement ideas based on the data.
- Continue training as directed for certification levels and stay current in maintenance techniques.
- Use and apply Oracle eAM to generate reports for budget planning and work planning.
- Use Visual Work Instruction, CMMS, and other systems proficiently and provide input to improve them.
- Modify schematics or blueprints using hard copy sketches, CAD, AutoCAD, etc.
- Perform complex repair and diagnosis of process equipment, including electrical, controllers, instruments, and safety circuits.
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC programming and communication, including Control Logix 5000, SLC 500, PLC5, as well as integrated motion control.
- Modify existing Panel View/HMI programs.
- Certified food‑grade welder (Level 2–3 elective). [SAF‑LOG
103] Guard Logix Fundamentals and Maintenance - HAZWOPER (Level 2–3 elective)
- Precision measurement and machining (Level 2–3 elective)
- Electrical, controllers and instruments (Level 2–3 elective) – specification of parts such as VFDs, motor controllers, or instrumentation independently.
- Pneumatics and hydraulics – repair electromechanical issues.
- Lubrication, bearings, and seals – change bearings on conveyors and simple equipment following OEM documentation.
- Fasteners, tools – use appropriate meter for troubleshooting electrical or electromechanical components.
- Drives and transmissions – verify settings in motor controllers based on name plate, OEM, or other technical data.
- Air compressors and dryers, boilers – understand hazards and system types.
- Air handlers – read schematics and identify basic electrical or electromechanical components.
- Ammonia systems – basic understanding of purpose and functionality.
- Plant utilities – knowledge of main electrical feeds, one‑line drawings, water supply feeds, backflow prev enters, main shut‑off valves, and isolation valves.
- Alarm systems – locate and read trouble codes on panels.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Associate Degree in Maintenance or Computer‑related field, or Technical School certificate in the same area.
- Certificate/License in Maintenance or Computer‑related area.
- Experience:
Maintenance or electrical knowledge; experienced plant operators with maintenance exposure may be considered. - Must perform at the described skill level to attain and retain level certification; continuous learning required.
