JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:

Assistant Technician Immediate Supervisor:
Engineer Technician Starting Salary: $34,000/yr

Assistant Technician is a full-time salary position that performs Motor Fuel Tax bookkeeping functions for the Warren County Highway Department, utilizing strong computer skills for various administrative, financial, and communication tasks. This position requires maintaining accurate Motor Fuel Tax records, MFT inspection of projects, developing annual cost estimates for all townships, assisting with standard office operations, and fostering effective relationships with county, state, and township officials, as well as the general public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Advise and assist Township Highway Commissioners with Motor Fuel Tax Maintenance and other highway and drainage projects.
  • Assist Township Highway Commissioners in setting up annual Motor Fuel Tax maintenance sections.
  • Monitor Township Motor Fuel Tax Expenditures to ensure compliance with IDOT policies and process invoices related to Township Motor Fuel Tax purchases.
  • Verify employees' time cards/labor hours with equipment rental hours by category for County Motor Fuel Tax.
  • Break down invoices to appropriate accounts and townships.
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions for all motor fuel tax funds.
  • Calculate bills for cities, villages, and townships for use of county equipment, labor, and materials.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheets detailing income and expenditures for MFT.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with state, county, city, village, and township officials and employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Qualifications and License Requirements:
  • High School diploma.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contract personnel, other employees, and supervisors, Township Highway Commissioners. Ability to meet, listen to and answer questions from the public.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License.
  • Continuing Education and training in the job is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. Frequent on-site visits to road and bridge construction projects require climbing and walking over rough terrain.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach and carry with hands and arms
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have ability to talk and hear in person and via use of telephone
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision and depth perception
