Position Summary
The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill or transfer station. Duties include transferring, spreading, covering, loading and/or compacting waste or soil in an efficient and safe manner.
Principal Responsibilities- Perform pre‑ and post‑operation inspection of equipment to ensure windows, lights, mirrors and rear‑view camera are clean. Safely operate equipment such as forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front‑end loader and other machinery using proper safety standards.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
- Monitor equipment condition to ensure operational readiness at all times, minimizing downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
- Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated issues to the Maintenance Shop for repair.
- Complete Equipment Condition Report and other required reports; report necessary repairs to supervisor.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure the shop is clean, serviced and stored upon completion of each shift.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Two years of related heavy equipment operation experience.
- One year of experience working at OSHA‑regulated sites.
- Strong customer service skills; professional, courteous, cooperative, honest and trustworthy with colleagues and clients.
- Good time‑management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Ability to follow a work schedule and address challenges as they arise.
- Adherence to company policies, rules and safety standards without taking inappropriate risks.
- Maintains pride in work and strives to achieve all goals.
